Lot Details

Mid 1960’s Pye “Partystarter” Record Player and Radio. This unit has been fully restored and plays both records on the turntable and through the radio with a lovely tone. Lights up when operating and looks amazing with its contrasting yellow Formica, timber carcass and external black metal legs. The Perspex lid can be moved to either the right or left depending on what you are playing. Double speakers to the base. The black opening to the upper left was intended to store drinks bottles hence the name “Party Starter” Measuring 1220mm in length by 400mm deep by 555mm high. This example was introduced to Nz during the mid-1960’s and was made here under licence (sticker to the rear) Seen at the time as too avant-garde and also very expensive they did not initially sell well with the general public preferring the more traditional heavy solid timber cabinets that were more in vogue at the time. As such, this set is now extremely rare even to the point there is little to no information regarding this model on the net.
