Genuine period American “Jax” book end attributed to "design line" Finished in Chrome (not an aluminium version) it is very heavy. Iconic design often misattributed to George Nelson, these pieces were actually originally designed by Bill Curry and his wife Jacquelyn at the studio “design line” in El Segundo, Santa Monica, California. Curry was a graduate student of “art centre” and in 1965 many of his “design line” products were selected for the "excellence of design by Pasadena art museum’s design nine exhibition" Originally cast in solid brass and shown in the 1967 design line catalogue, 12 differing painted coloured steel and chrome versions soon followed. Can be used as a stand-alone sculptural piece, book end or doorstop. Measuring approximately 200mm across the diagonal, ball to ball. Weighing a substantial 1.23kgs. Offered in excellent structural order with some surface pitting.
